Early Language: An Introduction to the Bloom and Lahey Model of Normal Language Development Phases 1-3

This three-day workshop includes a one-day introduction to the Bloom and Lahey model of normal language development with the two remaining days devoted to the discussion of Phases 1, 2 and 3. Workshop topics include: eliciting and analyzing language samples using the Bloom and Lahey model, and planning appropriate language lessons based on the categories of the model and the needs of the child. |

| Description: |
This Module provides detailed information on hierarchies, strategies and techniques that facilitate auditory learning of spoken language by children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. The Module covers general knowledge in the areas of auditory function, listening as a process, hierarchies of auditory development and development of Auditory-Verbal lesson plans. It also identifies specific Auditory-Verbal techniques and strategies that allow parents and therapists to set up a listening environment and insures that children process successfully in each stage of auditory development. The formal and informal assessment of a listening function is also outlined with a view to developing short- and long-tern goals. |

The module examines the necessary components of a mainstreamed program for students ranging from preschool to secondary school through the following topics: historical overview of mainstreaming, program administration and case management, audiological management, A-V Therapy, in-service training and parent guidance. |
